Day 10

Day 10! I can't believe it has been 10 days already.

We gave the final set and transaction project today. The project consisted of making a policy search screen, policy view screen and process utility screen. The screens are linked by zoom buttons. They also had to write a function for a button on the process utility screen. Most people finished in about 5 hours. 2 people didn't finish at all. We graded on a 60 point scale; the best grade was 60; the worst grade was 28. All but 4 people scored 50 or better. Overall not bad.

I don't get the travel agency here. The guy called me last night and mentioned something about putting me on a different flight from Goa to Bangalore this weekend. I didn't really understand him. Today when I checked my email I saw he has me flying stand by on the last flight of the day. What is he thinking? What do I do if I don't get on the plane? Anyway, I went back there after lunch and explained to him why stand by was not going to work for me. I think he understands but you never know. I'll find out tomorrow. I miss Orbitz!

Everyone in my class speaks English very good [sic]. However they all have a mannerism that we don't have in the US. In the US we have a nod for yes and shake for no. Here instead of a nod they have a "bobble" for yes. It's like a shake but different. When you shake your head you turn your head left and right. When you bobble you move your whole head left and right. Check out this link about the head bobble. It's really confusing because it looks more like a shake (no) than a nod (yes).

Comments....

I write the training update paragraph for people at work. If you only care about food, poo and souvenirs you can skip that paragraph.

Dad, Denise, Sandy, Phil: T shirts, magnets, shot glasses, stamps are all on the shopping list. Anyone else?

Lisa: I'm the funniest cousin you got!

Dad: I am having a good time but I miss everyone a lot. I have been very busy. I basically teach from 9-5 and then do my regular job from 5 - 11. I'm looking forward to the long weekend in Goa.

Deepak: I got the update on Bangalore bars from Nishant. I'll try the fenny in Goa and let you know what I think.

Adam: I didn't realize you have to teach and do your regular job, too. But it sounds as if you are a good teacher. Are you getting enough sleep with all the work and a hard bed? I hope you get the earlier flight to Goa so you can get some rest. Dad was just kidding about the t-shirt, so if you don't have time, don't worry about it. Tomorrow (or today) depending on how you look at it, is Jill's birthday. Just a reminder. Jill & Greg will be here over the weekend and I think we are all going to dinner, Carolyn too. Sorry you are missing out on a family dinner. We'll make it up to you when you get back. Take care, Love Mom

Hey Adam- I am almost the oldest I have ever been. Greg wants to know what the McD's has there- McCurray Nuggets? Like Mom said, we are going home this weekend. I am trying to get Dad to take us to Sabatino's- wish you could be there too. My friends are having a pink party for me on Saturday night. You have to wear or bring something pink- should be interesting. I will email pics next week. What date do you fly home? Miss you- be safe. Love- ur lil sis

Adam, don't feel bad, we're not going to Sabatino's either. Happy Birthday Jill!!! Happy Anniversary Lisa and Miles!!!
Adam, I really think your travel agent and my SBC tech are the same person, or share some DNA. I can't believe that they expect you to do both your jobs. Are you sure you didn't bobble instead of shake when they proposed this to you? Love, Sandy

I would like to say I am surprised that you are doing both of your jobs, but since I am getting very familar with the Allstate way I figure it should be expected. After all I currently wear many hats in the legal department. So do the people of India just have a more laid back attitude when it comes to travel that they do not think flying standby is a big deal? I remeber when Pete lost his ID in Mexico everyone kept telling us it would be no probelm until we spoke with an American and they told us to go to the embassy. It is probably just a difference in mentality. - Denise

Adam...
Sounds like you are having a great time! We try to follow your adventures each day; the pictures are so cool, we are living vicariously through you since we will probably never make it there ourselves. We saw Jill over the weekend at the pink party for her birthday and we had a blast! We also stopped by your mom and dad to pick up a picture of Granny's and some other stuff. We love logging on to see what's new, so keep up the info! Take care and we'll talk to you soon!
Love Mike & Sue
